FAQs

This will depend on the health care cover that you select. Some companies do not require a medical evaluation for any of their customers, while others select certain criteria, such as age, for determining if a medical evaluation is required or not.

Most health care cover providers offer a variety of plans for individuals, couples, and families. If you have a partner or children that you would like to include in your cover, it is important to learn about the specific provider's requirements. In many cases, there are restrictions on the definition of partner and the maximum age of the children included in the plan.

A pre-existing condition is a health condition that developed before you applied for health care cover. For example, having high blood pressure could be considered a pre-existing condition.

However, each health care cover provider has their own criteria for classifying conditions as pre-existing. For some it is a condition that you have been officially diagnosed with, for others it is a condition that you have already begun treatment for, and in some cases, it could be a condition that has not yet been attended to by a doctor, but that you should reasonably have been aware of.

Again, this varies among health care cover providers and can depend greatly on the type of condition. If, according to your provider's definition, you have a pre-existing condition then it may still be possible for you to apply successfully for health care cover, however you may not be able to make claims that relate to that condition.

An excess is a set amount of money that you are expected to contribute each year to your health care costs. Depending on your provider, this amount may apply to every claim or accumulate over the year. For example, you may be expected to pay the first portion of every treatment, or you may be expected to pay the first portion of the year's total treatments.

Depending on the plan you select, your health care cover can provide you with much more than simply paying for health care costs. For example, some plans offer cash payout options, provide you with access to a medical consultant, and incentives if you switch from another provider. Every plan is unique so be sure to read about each and discover which one has the benefits that are best suited to your needs.
